Alain Pérez

is now based in Madrid. Pérez was just seventeen when he was invited to play with Cuban super group Irakere, led by the great Chucho Valdés. Originally trained in classical guitar, Pérez was encouraged to begin playing bass by the celebrated Cuban singer Isaac Delgado. Whether playing bass, keyboard, percussion, singing, or contributing compositions and arrangements, Pérez’s musical vision is at the centre of a revolution in contemporary Cuban music.

Iyá Iré

is Toronto’s newest and most vibrant Afro-Cuban folkloric performance group. Comprised of a diverse group of young musicians and dancers, the traditions Iyá Iré perform represent the myriad of colourful gods, pulsating rhythms, and fascinating histories which gives Cuba its special energy.  Recent successes include a sold-out show with Chucho Valdés, Jane Bunnett, Hilario Durán and David Virelles and a feature on Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations.”  Watch for their upcoming CD!
